A rainy day in Monaco... on the way to see Picasso exhibition.
Two Picasso exhibitions at the Forum Grimaldi: 'Picasso in the Cote d'Azur' and 'Picasso from the Nahmad collection'. Both very interesting but I preferred the Cote d'Azur exhibition which documents the summers Picasso spent in the Cote'd'Azur from the Twenties onwards: the houses he stayed in and a selection of works made in them - including the amazing 'Still life with mandolin and guitar' from 1924. The Nahmad family collection is a good overview of Picasso's work - as they seem to have something from every era - but it's a bit of a job lot. You do get a sense though of the many stylistic periods Picasso went through, how prolific he was and how uneven the work is.
Visiting Mary McGuckian on the set of her new film, 'The Price of Desire', about the Irish born pioneering modernist designer/architect Eileen Gray and Le Corbusier. This is the house - known as E-1027 - in Roquebrune that Eileen Gray designed in the mid-1920s with her then partner, Jean Badovici. It was truly ahead of it's time. Le Corbusier later defaced the house by creating murals on some of the walls - which were much loathed by Gray.
Just finished reading Nic Roeg's sort-of memoir 'The World is Ever Changing'. Very enjoyable. He's made some wonderful films - both as DP and director. My favourites: 'Walkabout' and 'Don't Look Now'. He's also made some awful ones. Recently saw 'Eureka'. Yikes!
In the studio reviewing some of the portraits I made in New York for Jocks&Nerds.
On a recce in Berlin for a portrait shoot tomorrow. Taken to see Zentral Flughafen - the airport Hitler built in the 1930s. Extraordinary - and extensive - building which appears to be empty.
At Glyndebourne to see Donizetti's Don Pasquale. Beautifully staged production.
Shooting at the location in Portland Place which was used in the film The King's Speech as King George VI's speech therapist's consultation room.
Ernesto working on Lauren's hair in The King's Speech room.
Shooting in England in August - silly me!
